Return Chutes
A book return chute gives borrowers an obvious place to leave items when they have finished with them. Internal chutes are useful during normal library hours, while an external library book return chute allows books to be returned after the building has closed. Raeco’s return chutes are available with secure locking and anti-tamper features. These help restrict access to the returned collection, particularly where the chute is installed in an external wall or an area that cannot be monitored by staff. Books pass through the opening into a return trolley placed behind or below the chute. Staff can then move the collected items for checking, sorting and reshelving. Pairing the chute with a suitable trolley also avoids books accumulating loosely behind the return point. Before selecting a chute, libraries need to consider its location, expected return volume and the room available for collection. Raeco’s consultants can assist with planning the chute and trolley arrangement.
