Ashburton Library reopened in November 2013 after an extensive redevelopment. A larger public floor space, dedicated quiet study rooms, and purpose-built flexible meeting and activity spaces are features of the new library and adjoining Ashburton Community Centre.

Light, fresh new spaces and library furniture capture both a contemporary aesthetic and the comfortable, welcoming attitude that accords with the contemporary public library. State-of-the-art features include self check-in and check-out facilities, library book shelving, and a wonderful new childrens area incorporating an outside deck, increased study space and a revamped workroom.

The building incorporates environmentally sustainable design features and new technology.
