CITY OF MELBOURNE, LIBRARY SERVICE, VIC
107 Victoria Harbour Promenade, Docklands VIC
The vision for the Library at The Dock was to provide a community space that delivered both a traditional library service as well as a cutting edge technology offer alongside facilities that would empower the community to read, learn, connect and create.
The Library at The Dock project presented a range of complex and sometimes competing interests and drivers which all needed to be considered as part of a bespoke and responsive shelving solution which had the reader at its heart.
The tripartite nature of the project involving LendLease, Places Victoria and City of Melbourne meant that each party had their own expectations in terms of vision, sustainability, visibility and innovation which all became key considerations when developing the shelving offer. The Library at The Dock houses a collection of 60,000 physical items as well as providing access to a vast range of digital content such as eBooks and heritage and research resources.
